Dora Askew Obituary

Dora Pauline Dubois Askew, 77, formerly of Cherokee, passed away March 15, 2007, in Atlanta, Ga.

Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. today, March 18, 2007, at Morrison Funeral Home, Cherokee. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday, March 19, 2007, at the funeral home chapel, with Dr. Jeff Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Barton Cemetery.

Mrs. Askew was preceded in death by her parents, Willy and Elizabeth Dubois, of Barton; husband, Thomas Edmond Askew; sister, Susie Mae Glover, of Cherokee; and daughter, Anita Faye Williams, of Cherokee.

Survivors include her brother, Wilmer Dubois; son, Bob (Mary Ann) Askew, of Georgia; daughter, Julia (Kenny) Moss, of Missouri, son-in-law, Carroll Williams Jr., of Cherokee; grandchildren, Deanna (Mitchell) Blackmon, of Cherokee, Tommy (Jennifer) Williams, of Mississippi, Crystal (Micheal) Wiece, of Ohio, Mark (Tammy) Askew, of Ohio, Stephanie and Brandon Moss, of Missouri, and Rob Askew, of Georgia; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Rob Askew, Carroll Williams Jr., Mitch Blackmon, Tommy Williams, Calvin Handley and Don Marquart.

Dora and Edmond were the former owners of Trade Winds Restaurant in the 1960s.

Dora was an avid member of Fifth Street Baptist Church, of Iuka, when she had her health. She was a hostess at McDonalds in Muscle Shoals and Sheffield, which she loved.

She loved her flower garden with which she had a remarkable green thumb. Most of all, she loved her children and her dog, Trudy.

Morrison Funeral Home, Cherokee, is directing.
