Caroline SAUNDERS Obituary

SAUNDERS, Caroline Doyle, 94, of Lynchburg, Va., died on Thursday, January 17, 2013. Caroline was born December 31, 1918, in McKenney, Va., the daughter of Charles Watson Doyle and Eva Thomas Doyle. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dr. John R. Saunders. A graduate of Westhampton College (University of Richmond) and The Pan American School, Caroline worked as a medical secretary at the Medical College of Virginia, where she met John R. They married and moved to Lynchburg in 1946. Caroline is survived by daughters, Betsy Saunders Jones (Hugh) of Lynchburg, Va., and Sue Saunders Clark (Bill) of Devon, Pa.; grandchildren, Brandom Jones Price (Mitch) of Whitefish, Mont., Caroline Jones Pheeney (Douglas) of Darien, Conn., Lt. Col. Douglas Clark (Kathleen) of Kennett Square, Pa., and Cameron Clark (Jacqui) of Carlsbad, Calif.; and eight great-grandchildren. After a private graveside service there will be a memorial service on Monday, January 21, 2013 at 12 noon, at First Presbyterian Church, 1215 VES Road, Lynchburg, Va. The family will receive friends and family immediately after the service in the church Narthex. Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg, is assisting the family, (434)237-9424.
