BROWN, G. Richard, beloved husband and father, died November 13 at age 88. He was born in Lee County, N.C., November 7, 1922, and was a resident of the Virginia Peninsula from 1940 to 1944 and from 1986 until his death. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 57 years, Helen Cox Brown of Poquoson; his son, David R. Brown of Chester; his parents, Eugenia Gray Brown and Joseph G. Brown of North Carolina; his brothers, E. Meredith Brown of North Carolina, and Gordon V. Brown of Newport News; and his sister, Jean Brown Carter of Montgomery, Ala. He is survived by his daughter, Peggy Brown Powell and husband, B. H., of Wake Forest, N.C., and their children, Ginger Powell, and her two children, Rick Powell and his wife, Julia; and his other daughter, Patricia Brown Kluge and husband, Bill, of Poquoson, and their daughters, Casey Kluge Cross and her husband, Derick, and Lindsay Kluge. Mr. Brown was a graduate of the Newport News Apprentice School, served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, graduated from the University of Michigan and, following that, became a licensed architect and practiced that profession in Richmond for 30 years. While in Richmond, he served as president of the Richmond section of the American Institute of Architects, president of the Exchange Club of Richmond and President of the Virginia District Exchange Clubs. Upon retirement in 1986, he and his wife, Helen, moved back to Poquoson where he served as vice-chairman of the Poquoson Planning Commission for eight years. He was a member of Tabernacle United Methodist Church in Poquoson, and was also an active member of the Exchange Club of Wythe in Hampton. The family will receive friends Wednesday, 7 to 8 p.m. at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home, 836 Poquoson Ave., Poquoson. A funeral service will be held Thursday, 2 p.m., at Tabernacle United Methodist Church by Rev. Dr. Bill Wash. Interment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park, Hampton. The family request that in lieu of flowers, any memorial or contributions may be made to Tabernacle United Methodist Church, 831 Poquoson Ave., or Poquoson Volunteer Rescue Squad, 830 Poquoson Ave., both in Poquoson, Va. 23662.
