Herman Hash Obituary

Herman L. Hash, born August 28, 1918 in Woolwine, Virginia, to John and Minni Hash. He was the tenth of fourteen children, graduated from Chancellor High School, and received a law degree from Virginia College of Commerce and Law. He served his country in WWII in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1945. After losing an eye in the line of duty, he was honorably discharged from the service. He was a sales manager for Trigon Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Virginia from 1953 until 1977, when he retired as district manager of the Peninsula District, Newport News, Va. After retirement he authored a book, "Down On The Farm Anecdotes" and other stories in verse. He was loving husband and father to Frances Keener Hash (wife); Gary Michael Hash (son); Deborah Leslie Raines (daughter). He is survived by his son, Mike of Southhaven, Miss.; daughter, Debbie of Richmond, Texas; grandson, Brian Benjamin; and granddaughter, Laurie Katherine, both of Miami, Fla.; brothers, Herbert Howard Hash of Culpeper, Va., Dexter Lane Hash of Arlington, Va., James Alvin Hash of Edgewater, Md., Roy Lincoln Hash of Spokane, Wash., Joe Cecil Hash of Grottoes, Va.; sisters, Ella Lambert of Fredricksburg, Va., Lucy Myrtle Hash of Seattle, Wash., and Mary Elgin of Culpeper, Va. Funeral Services for Herman will be at 2 p.m. Monday, September 29 at the Lindsey Funeral Home Chapel at Weyers Cave, Va.. The family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in his memory be made to the American Cancer Society, 1920 Medical Ave., Harrisonburg, Va. 22801; the American Heart Association, 3025 Berkmar Dr., Charlottesville, Va. 22901; or the Grottoes Rescue Squad, in Grottoes, Va.
