McDONOUGH, Hugh James Sr., 86, passed away on July 14, 2010, at Eden Pines Nursing Home. Mr. McDonough was a native of Richmond, Va. and lived in Newport News for over 50 years. Mr. McDonough retired from FAA at Patrick Henry Airport in 1984, from Civil Service, and served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Rita; four sisters and two brothers. Survivors include his wife, Juanita McDonough; son, Hugh "Chip" McDonough Jr. and wife, Deborah; three sisters, Beth Schia of Charlotte, N.C., Jane Waltrip of Newport News and Helen Saunders of Largo, Fla.; brother, James McDonough of Varina; grandsons, Mark McDonough and wife, Tiffany, of Gloucester and Christopher McDonough of Newport News; and two great-granddaughters, Kylee and Kamryn. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, July 18, 2010, at Peninsula Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 19, 2010, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, with burial to follow in Peninsula Memorial Park. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association Southeastern Virginia Chapter, 6350 Center Drive, Suite 102, Norfolk, Va. 23502 or the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 5216, Glen Allen, Va. 23058. Peninsula Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
