I will miss Uncle Joe very much. He was a dear man who loved a good joke. We shared a love of cruising and I'm so glad that he was able to get in one more.
The Family parties will never be the same.
My deepest condolences all the family.

Jean, Ann, Jay (JayBird in our younger days), it has been so many years since I have seen you, but I remember all of you so fondly. You see, my father and Joe first became friends through ham radios, my father being W4CRG. I know you remember him as a local attorney, TC Crouch (and sometimes as Tom Crouch). Dad and Joe became so close over the many, many decades they were friends and I heard Dad many times refer to Joe as, "My best friend, Joe said...". I remember, too, spending the night at your house as kids do and you, Jean, fixing the best breakfast a kid could ask for, warmed up spaghetti. Make no mistake, that was heaven! And I remember Ann and myself sitting outside in Dad's new car and suddenly the radio went off. Dead battery and yes, we were blamed. Well, what can I say about that. As the years went on and I became an adult, I made it a point to visit Joe in his different office locations just to say hi and visit with him for a bit. Nothing was more fun than a visit with him. I truly believe he was the most genuine and nicest man I ever knew and I loved him, too. Who wouldn't?
After all this time, I can still hear him singing in our living room as he saw me pass by (just to get my goat, you know), "I don't want her, you can have her, she's too fat for me" -- he was just the greatest. And so today, I want you all to know that he touched me and my whole family and made the world a better place for being in it. He really did humanity proud and I was very lucky to have known him.
My thoughts and prayers, and always my love to all of you ~~

I am in Florida, and sorry I cannot be with all of you at this time. Having grown up with Joe, living one block away, Joe and Eddie were like brothers to me. Joe interested me in radio which gave me my WWII army career. I say goodby to Joe .-- ....- .. -- .--. ***

Dear Jean, Jay and family,

Joe will be missed by many associated with eye care in Richmond for many years. I remember so well the wonderful dinners that he and Jean hosted for the ophthalmology community when I was first starting my practice. We all looked forward to gathering with Joe, as he reached out to create better relationships between optometry and ophthalmology; he was successful in many ways.

I always enjoyed his witty notes and sage advice to a young ophthalmologist who enjoyed Joe's presence.

It was a privilege to have known Joe.

My deepest condolences to all the family.
