Leaving the Station for the Last Time

November 24, 2010

To all the Didlake kin,
On behalf of the many friends who, like Dick, will always be a kid at heart, we the members of the Virginia Train Collectors send our deepest condolences and the biggest hug we can envision. God surely has Dick's hand on the throttle of a locomotive somewhere in heaven, for he surely loved his trains. At Christmas time, when the Marine Corps Toys for Tots program was in full swing, Dick always helped load the toys, including the trains, to give to the needy children. Semper Fi, Big Guy. Save a place on the express run, for we shall meet again someday, and I know you will be in charge. God Bless your family. Please call on me, or any of the Virginia Train Collectors members if there is anything we can do to assist you at this time or in the future.

I stepped on that ballfield at 10 years old and Mr. Didlake was my first coach. I played for him for two years (American Redsox). We beat the Oriols the second year. That was a feat., (tears).. He taught me alot about baseball those two years... forty years later he just taught me about life....His reflection is his family, friends, and the things he did in the community.. the people he touched.... My heart goes out to the Didlake family..... Thank you for sharing him with us...... He was such an impact on many of our lives. He used to hit baseballs to me in right field... " Bring em home Gene"..... Bring em home Mr. Didlake... Godspeed!

November 23, 2010

Earlean and family, please accept our deepest sympathies in the lost of your Husband. Dickie was a good Father, Husband and Firefighter as well as friend. Our hearts are heavy too.

The members of the Richmond Retired Firefighters Association will truly miss our friend, brother and comrade who have gone ahead of us and will greet all of us one day.

The sorrow of the faithful is not that of permanent loss, but the tender sense of sadness that comes in saying good-bye for now to someone we love.

May today's sorrow give way to the peace and comfort of God's love.

It will be the little things that you will remember, the quiet moments,
the smiles, the laughter. And although it may seem hard right now, it will be the memories of these little things that help to push away the pain and bring the smiles back again.
