ROBERT CROSTIC

CROSTIC, Robert Hunter, age 63, lost a hard fought battle with cancer on Saturday, September 11, 2010, surrounded by the family he dearly loved. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Henry S. Sr. and Edith H. Crostic; a twin sister, Betty C. Berkley; mother-in-law, Helen T. Gentry; and nephew, W. Ross Eggleston. Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Claire G. Crostic; son, Stuart C. "Carl" and wife, Tracy; daughter, Anne T. Abbott and husband, Alex. Robert was blessed with beloved grandsons, Cooper Henry Abbott and Owen Hunter Crostic. Other survivors include a sister, Patricia C. Eggleston and her husband, Wayne; and a brother, H. Stuart Crostic Jr. and his wife, Joyce; sister-in-law, Mary P. Jordan and her husband, Jim; as well as his "7/8th" daughter, Emily R. Gallimore and her husband, Richie. Nieces and nephews include Ryan H. and Jason S. Eggleston (Stephanie), Jennifer E. Brittain (Stewart), Michelle P. Garland and Troy L. Prettey (Alice); as well as 12 great-nieces and nephews. He was comforted by his constant feline companions, Garfield and Buddy. Robert served honorably in the United States Navy aboard the DD-445 Fletcher from 1966 to 1968 and was retired after 31 years from E.I. DuPont in 2009. He then spent his time doing some of the activities both inside, and most of all outside, his home that he so enjoyed. He and his family have been members of Bon Air United Methodist Church for over 38 years. Robert and his family have been truly blessed with many loving and supportive extended family and friends during these difficult months. His family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Bliley's-Chippenham, 6900 Hull Street Road. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Dale Memorial Park, followed by a celebration of Robert's life at Bon Air United Methodist Church at 2 p.m., and a fellowship in the commons of the church. Robert's wish was that, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Thomas Palliative Care, P.O. Box 980214, Richmond, Va. 23298-0214, or to Bon Air United Methodist Church, 1645 Buford Rd., Richmond, Va. 23235.
