Anthony RINALDI Obituary

Published by Richmond Times-Dispatch from Nov. 11 to Nov. 12, 2009.
RINALDI, Anthony "Tony," 71, of Midlothian, passed away on November 9, 2009. He fought a brave battle with dementia and died peacefully. He is survived by his wife, Dolores, of 49 years; daughter, Lisa Rinaldi Bugg (husband, Kevin) of Kernersville, N.C.; sons, Marc Rinaldi (wife, Karen) of Hummelstown, Pa. and Scott Rinaldi (wife, Malia) of Midlothian, Va.; five grandchildren, Zachary, Elijah, Charlie, Aleksey and Luca; and sister, Marie Rinaldi Wilson of Connecticut. He will be remembered as a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and friend to those whose lives he touched. Tony was born on March 5, 1938 in Hartford, Conn. and was preceded in death by his parents, John and Antoinette Rinaldi; and brother, Angelo Rinaldi. Anthony graduated Cum Laude from The Porter School of Tool and Machine Design in 1962 and the University of Hartford in 1967. After 17 years with Monsanto Company, Tony continued his career at Ethyl Corporation and Tredegar Corporation, where he retired in 2000 as Senior Vice President and President of Tredegar Film Products. His career at Tredegar Corporation required extensive travel to Europe, South America and Asia and included a short, eventful assignment in Kerkrade, The Netherlands. Tony was an active member of St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church, serving as a Eucharistic minister, on the Parish Council and was a 3rd degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus. He was involved with Catholic Charities, Meals on Wheels, serving on the Board of Directors. Tony's hobbies included spending time with grandchildren, antique clock collecting, wood-working and playing golf, bocce and cards. He most loved his summer home in Old Saybrook, Conn. and spending time on Kiawah Island. Tony and Dolores looked forward to their annual fall retreat to Aruba with friends and family. The family will receive friends Friday from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. at St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church, 2700 Dolfield Drive, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. A reception will follow in the Church Commons. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made in Tony's name to Alzheimer's Association of Greater Richmond and Odyssey Hospice Health Care. Our heartfelt thanks to all the caring hands at Southerland Place, wonderful support of Odyssey Hospice Health Care, William Belton and all of Tony's friends who visited him on a weekly basis.

I was fortunate to know not only Tony but his wife Dolores while working at his retirement community. My one fond memory of Tony came from Dolores. She told me his favorite holiday tradition was to make his Italian Pizzelle cookies. What a wonderful sight that must have been to see this larger than life gentleman creating these very delicate confections. His recipe was included in A Taste of Southerland Place recipe book. Enough can not be said of Dolores and her love and devotion to Tony. Thinking of you Dolores.

Dear Scott,
I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your father. I still remember when I met him at our graduation from IU. He was just one of the guys, laughing and calling everyone by their nicknames, as if he'd went to school with us. Please know that you and your family are in my prayers.

Dear Rinaldi Family,
Tony and I graduated from U of H on the same day in 1967. He, Frank Stawski, and I worked for the PLAX Corp. in Hartford. Tony stayed on, and I left for California and a teaching career. I remember how Tony strode across that stage in 1967, with authority and confidence. He obviously contined that throughout his life. My prayers and condolences to Dolores and all the Rinaldi clan.
With deep regret,

Our sincere condolence and prayers go out to the Rinaldi family.
I also started my career at PLAX which evolved into Monsanto, working for Tony, designing plastic bottles. I purchased and drove for years his blue 1964 VW Bug. It was a pleasure to have known a person like Tony. As a result of his encouragement I continued my education and went on to my own successful career.

My sincere condolences to the Rinaldi Family: Bones and I grew up together in the Clay Hill neighborhood in Hartford. He, Rich Pignone , Bob Russek and I formed our own mutual protection group that we called "The Four Horsemen". We had each others' backs through grammar school and into high school. He was a faithful friend with a great sense of humor. May he rest in peace.
