ABERNATHY, Bertha Nunnelly, 87, of Blackstone, Va., passed away Wednesday, April 21, 2010. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Buddy Abernathy Jr.; daughter, Sherrie Abernathy; two brothers, William Nunnelly and wife, Elsie, and Bernard Nunnelly, all of Blackstone; several nieces and nephews; and the entire Abernathy family. Bertha enjoyed her career as a teacher's aide for 28 years in Blackstone and Crewe primary schools and loved working with the children. She loved giving her own created gifts to her family and friends, as well as passionately taking many pictures and sharing them with many. A graveside funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, April 24, 2010, at Lakeview Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday (today), April 23, 2010, at the Joseph McMillian Funeral Home, 1826 Cox Rd., Business Highway #460, near Blackstone. Memorial donations may be made to the Blackstone Christian Church, Brunswick Avenue and Church Street, Blackstone, Va. 23824. Condolences may be sent to www.mcmillianfuneralhome.com.
