BRYANT, Carrie Lee Powell, 88, of Heathsville, Va., passed away Tuesday, October 12, 2010. She was born in Ophelia, Va., was the eldest of eight children born to Frederick Ray Sr. and Dorothy Neal Rogers. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Steiner Powell and Allen Bryant; son, Donald Allan Bryant; brother, James Samuel Rogers Sr. and; sister, Dorathy Alphine Rogers Crossley. She is survived by a son, Fred Powell (Shelba); daughter-in-law, Dana Davis Bryant; two grandchildren, Alan Bryant (Amanda) and Audrey Lee Bryant; two brothers, Fredrick Ray Rogers Jr. of Reedville, Va., and John Williams Rogers of Richmond, Va.; three sisters, Otelia Robertson of Reedville, Va., Kathleen Wissig of Ellicott City, Md., and Mary Ann Ridgway of Ophelia, Va. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. She moved to Washington, D.C. in 1932 where she met and married Steiner Powell. Later, she returned to Ophelia, Va., and worked as a secretary for J. Howard Smith, Fishing Company. She also worked at Northumberland Bank and was an employee for over 35 years at Jones-Ash Funeral Home and Faulkner Family Funeral Home and Crematory. She was one of the founders of Northumberland County Rescue Squad. She volunteered for many years at the American Red Cross. Carrie Lee was the owner of Fre-Don Crafts of Heathsville and was known for her lovely handiwork and flower arrangements. The family will receive friends at Jones-Ash Funeral Home, Rainswood, Va., on Thursday, October 14, 2010 from 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel on Friday, October 15, at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Roseland Cemetery, Reedville, Va. Contributions can be made to Mid-County Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 355, Heathsville, Va. 22473, or Riverside Tappahannock Hospice, 659 Hospital Rd., Tappahannock, Va. 22560.
