Anne Carrington Ewell
March 29, 2011
I miss my uncle. I am the Anne Carrington from the obituary. One thing I will always remember about him, is that he loved art. I think this gift of his was passed down to me, and I will always remember my uncle when I paint, draw, or act. I love and miss him.

I directed Carrington in a play at UR -- he played Henry II in The Lion in Winter -- and have never forgotten what a masterful performance he gave, and how much fun he was to work with. I'm dismayed that he's gone . . . apparently, our paths nearly crossed in Philadelphia, but I haven't seen him since 1983, and I'm sad now to know that I never will. He will not be forgotten.

Mildred, Frances and the rest of the family. Please accept our sympathy and prayers in the loss of Carrington. Although we did not know him, just knowing Mama and Frances, he must have been a terrific person.
Once again, our sympathy.

Carrington was My Best Friend, too--he was the brother I never had. As he put it, we were just Simpatico. There are so many things about him I will miss--his cheese grits, having a drink with him while solving the world's problems, visiting Mildred, hanging out with him, Kim, Gibson, and Lee, Highland Games, canoing on the James, and just knowing that when you were with him you were with someone who cared deeply for you.
Carrington, I love you, I miss you, and I look forward to seeing you when we meet again!
Love, Steve Cornwell (and Yoshiko Goan)

Carrington and I were close cousins. Growing up we were often thought to be twins. We even share the same birthmark. Our parents were first cousins and best friends and the tradition continued down the ranks. The Ewell and Jones clans have a long history filled with great memories that have kept us close even though we've grown older and moved in different directions. It's hard to believe I won't get another chance to see him again.Wish I could find some old pictures of us when we were wild ones growing up. A very sad time but reconnecting with family was a wonderful thing. The memories I have running around with Carrington, Clifford and Mildred will always hold a special place in my heart. Till we meet again.....

I knew Carrington from Piedmont Virginia Community College and am sorry to hear that he is no longer with us. Let the family know and remember that he resting in the arm of our Savior Jesus Christ. I have not seen him in years, but do remember his stroll down the hallways with a lovely warm smile on his face and speaking oh so gently to everyone he came in contact with. Carrington will be missed and I wish your family the eternal memory of him.
For God is in his Holy Temple and Carrington has now taken his eternal life with him. Rest Carrington Rest.
My symphathy to the Ewell family.

I knew Carrington at Robert E. Lee Elementary and graduated with him from St. Anne's, Class of '78. I saw him at two STAB reunions, most recently in 2008 for our 30th. We said goodbye to him at the memorial service, and while he will be missed by family and friends, he will remember him as he left this world: active and passionate and youthful. He along with our other lost classmates will be eternally young.
My sympathies to Kim and her sons, the entire Ewell family, and to all his friends, fans, and followers.

Carringotn was one that had a sparkle in the eye; one would say mischevious, another thoughtful, humurous, unique, love for his fellow man. Carrington was all of the above. He could provide thought provoking conversation, provide a laugh, get you in trouble in the halls of St Annes- Belfield, educate the not knowing of the finer parts of music, and as always dress in a fashion all his own. Carrington will be remembered by all the people he touched in so many ways. I will miss you my friend, god bless you and your family.

I was surprised and saddend to learn of Carrington's passing away. Carrington and I went to Rock Hill Academy together along with his sister and brother, and he and I were in the Children of the American Revolution in Charlottesville. I'll always remember his sense of humor and his love of the Marx Brothers. He loved their movies so much he even would wear spatz when he dressed up for a formal occasion!
My prayers are with you a this time.

If we are lucky, we have a handfull of GOOD friends and maybe one or two BEST friends. Carrington (Big C) was MY best friend. He was there for me when I needed a true friend who would not judge me and I was there for him. He was like an uncle to my sons, Jeremey and Chris. He stood by them as well.
When Big C gave a hug, it was a real man's hug; when he shook your hand, you know your hand was in contact with a strong, confident, elegant and learned gentleman. It was a handshake one could not ever forget. I love my true friend Carrington Ewell; I am a much better, kinder person for his influence on me. Big C: string your best mayfly on the line and cast for that lunker in the Big River. I will count on you finally teaching me to fly fish when we meet again...and we will!
Love,
Terry and Michelle Dunn

Kim and Family - We are so sorry for your loss of your beloved, wonderful, creative, outgoing, and understanding husband/father. Carrington was a very loving and generous spirit.
The body has died; the spirit it housed will never die. On earth our dear ones do live on through those of us to whom they were so very precious.
May God comfort you during this time of need and give you direction in the coming days. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

Although I cannot recall many individuals from grade school, Carrington holds a special spot in my memories of younger days. I vividly remember the outrageously fun adventures with my buddy Carrington and Mike Pappas. As with most friends, we all drifted apart after school but I will remember him as long as I live. Godspeed, my friend.

A beautiful person in so many ways - spiritual, creative, generous, charming, funny, attentive, wise and understanding - the very essence of the beauty of humanity. Thinking of Carrington always made me smile, though my heart is heavy with sadness for his whole family, for Kim and for his many friends. Keep his spirit close!

I have such fond memories of Carrington and all the Ewells throughout my life...in fact, many of my best memories involve my "kissin' cousins"...Carrington was always so vivacious and had such a zest for life. I remember pulling up to 809 Rugby Road to hear Carrington and Caruso booming from the upstairs windows. When I picture him in my mind's eye, he's always wearing some crazy get-up...a leather aviator helmet with a white silk scarf wrapped around his neck...a McGregor kilt...a vintage WW I uniform...a suit of armour! With Carrington I learned to expect the unexpected. He was such a charming, memorable character, and I am proud to be able to claim kinship. Although I haven't seen the Ewells much now that we've all grown up, I'll always feel a deep connection to the family. My heart is aching for them all...With much love and prayers, Cousin Elizabeth

Carrington was a great person and a great friend. He and my father have been very close friends for many years and and I looked at him as an Uncle. I remember many good times with Carrington and just wish I was able to spend more than with him than I have over the years. He will be missed greatly, rest in peace my friend.
