FAULKNER, Charles William "Charlie Bill" Sr., age 82, of Locust Hill and Mathews, passed away Wednesday, June 16, 2010. He was a member of Harmony Grove Baptist Church, Topping, where he was past chairman of the Board of Deacons and was a Deacon Emeritus. In his early years he was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church, Foster. He was a WWII Army veteran and served in the Medical Corp. In 1947, he joined the former Forrest Funeral Home. He was a 1950 graduate of Gupton-Jones College of Mortuary Science. After college, he rejoined Forrest Funeral Home. In 1952, he joined Mercer Funeral Home in Urbanna while continuing to work with Forrest Funeral Home. He was currently co-owner and president of Foster-Faulkner Funeral Home, Mathews, co-owner and secretary/treasurer of Bristow-Faulkner Funeral Home, Saluda, and co-owner and vice president of Marks-Bristow Funeral Home, Tappahannock. He also was co-owner and secretary treasurer of Tri-County Vault Company, Saluda. Bill's professional memberships include past president of the Tidewater Funeral Directors Association, National Funeral Directors Association, Virginia Funeral Directors Association, Independent Funeral Homes of Virginia and Selected Independent Funeral Homes. Bill was a past member of the Urbanna Town Council and very involved in the Mathews Chamber of Commerce, Mathews Rotary Club, Mathews Ruritan Club, American Legion Post #83, Urbanna Masonic Lodge # 83, Urbanna Royal Arch Chapter #59 and the Urbanna Commandery #33. Bill also served on the Board of Directors at Mizpah Health Care Center, Locust Hill. He is survived by his wife, Myrtle D. Faulkner; three daughters, Jeanne F. Ames (John) of Bowling Green, Susan Lee Bailey (Frank) and Shannon Kay Faulkner, both of Chesterfield; two sons, Charles William Faulkner Jr. (Joanie) of King William, Gregg C. Faulkner (Valerie) of Charlotte, N.C.; two stepdaughters, Martha Lou Cottingham (Don) and Ann Carleton Davis Gresham; one stepson, John D. Davis Jr. (Mary Ann), all of Locust Hill; one sister, Betty F. Minetree of Colonial Heights; two brothers, Robert H. Faulkner of Deltaville, T. Eddie Faulkner of Dutton; 19 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends Saturday, June 19, 2010 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Foster-Faulkner Funeral Home, Mathews. Funeral services will be conducted at 4 p.m. Sunday, June 20, 2010 in the Harmony Grove Baptist Church, Topping. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church. Burial will follow in the Middlesex Memorial Cemetery, Urbanna, where he was co-founder. Memorial donations my be made to Harmony Grove Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 138, Topping, Va. 23169 and/or to Macedonia Baptist Church, P.O. Box 102, Foster, Va. 23056.

I heard of Mr. Faulkner's death and started to think back and realized how many fond memories I had of him and the Faulkner family. He was a person I respected and had the pleasure of learning many lessons of life during my early years. I am sorry for your loss.
