Published by Richmond Times-Dispatch from Nov. 21 to Nov. 22, 2009.
ROBBINS, Charlie Bolden Jr., 84, died at his home on Thursday, November 19, 2009. He was the son of the late Lena Glasco and Charlie Bolden Robbins Sr. A West Point, Va. native, WWII veteran, graduate of the Newport News Apprentice School and Richmond Polytechnic Institute (VCU), he married his wife of 58 years, Joyce McKinney Robbins, moved to Caroline County and was an integral part of Bowling Green life for 57 years. He was the town of Bowling Green's first business manager, mayor, council member, member of the Bowling Green Volunteer Fire Department and Caroline County Board of Supervisors. He was, likewise, committed to his church, Bowling Green Baptist, and numerous civic organizations. Charlie enjoyed a 35 year career with Virginia Electric/ Rappahannock Electric Cooperatives, and thought fondly of his former co-workers there. He is survived by his wife, Joyce; three sons, Richard (Nancy), Rusty (Lynn), and Robert (Charlotte); and grandchildren, Christopher, Kate, and Charlie III. A memorial service will be held at Bowling Green Baptist Church at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 23. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Bowling Green Baptist Church, P.O.
