Clyde G. Farmer

FARMER, Clyde G., 86, of Midlothian, passed away peacefully at home December 17, 2009. Clyde was the wonderful husband of Ellen Sentelle Farmer, his "Babydoll", for 62 years; the beloved father to his children, Paula Farmer Fletcher and husband, Darl, Clyde Keith Farmer and his wife, Lynette, Jo Farmer Carroll and her husband, Tommy, and Heather Ellen Schone and her husband, John; beloved grandfather to Aura Booker, Clyde Kendrick Farmer and his wife, Maria, Johanna Jessie Farmer, John and Allison Schone, Madison and Matthew Carroll; and great-grandfather to Elijah and Isaiah Booker and Dorian Farmer. He is also survived by his sister, Gladys Holland; and his brothers, Robert V. Farmer and his wife, Nancy, Dewey Farmer and Ray Farmer and his wife, Cecile. He was preceded in death by his mother, Vinnie Ethel Farmer and his brothers, Johnnie and P. D. Farmer. Clyde retired from DuPont after 26 years of service. He was an inspiration to all who knew him. He was an avid bird dog lover, quail hunter and fisherman. Clyde served in the U.S. Army during WWII as 2nd Platoon Sargeant in the Anti-Tank Company of the 120th Infantry Regiment, 30 Division "Old Hickory" which was credited with defense of hill 314 in Mortain, France. Also, he was credited with participating in the battles of Normandy, Ardennes, Northern France, Central Europe and Rhineland. He received five Bronze Service Stars, a Good Conduct Medal, a Distinguished Unit Badge, a Bronze Star Medal, and a Purple Heart. His family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Bliley's-Chippenham, 6900 Hull Street Rd., where a funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Monday. Interment with military honors will take place 10 a.m. Tuesday at Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Amelia. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Wildlife Foundation of Virginia, P.O.
