Your contagious smile brought warmth to St. Catherines Mr. Hughes. We were no more than aquaintances, and I still looked forward to seeing you each time I walked across campus -still cant help but smile at you each time I see a yellow moped hum by. We are bereft of your presence, and it has become like a catalyst, memories meander across the mind, and I smile again -thank you! You've made a mark at St. Catherines, Thank you.

I had not seen David in years, but I remember him being a kind, funny and gentle person who always had a smile for you. My prayers are with his family who he had to leave behind, but know that he is in Gods hands and has great work yet to be done. Take care and be strong-he would want you to smile.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

I was definitely saddened and shocked when I heard of David's passing. I will always remember him as someone who always had a smile on his face. It had been many years since I had seen him but I remember him in high school as always being upbeat, laughing and joking. Even if the joke was on you, because it was David, you didn't take it personal. A great guy that will surely be missed by all who came into contact with him.
My deepest sympathies to the Hughes family. David is safe and secure now, with no more worries.

Although I have not seen David in ages, I still can remember that one beautiful summer evening when he asked me how to speak 'indeed' in sign language for his song. As he learned quickly, David signed 'indeed' happily in the air with his great smile by his car along with small cousins including myself dancing in grandparents Spears' driveway. No way will I ever forget how enormous his heart was! Thanks God for his humanity and our prayers go to his family as well.

To Ms. Joanne & Family,
I just received the news of David's passing by way of my family in Richmond. I am extremely sorry for your loss. Your son was truly a blessing in my life. He started off as just a best friend from high school and ended up being so much more to me over the past 25 years. I will always remember his kind spirit and sense of humor as he brought joy to my heart over the years. There are so many wonderful things that I could say about David, but the most important thing is that he was a good person. He looked at the positive side of life, he embraced harmony and peace, and he genuinely cared about others. I will love him forever and look forward to the day that our spirits meet again. I pray for strength for your family during this time of mourning.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the Hughes family. David will always be remembered for his bright smile and positive attitude. The passion he had with the children was much more than a gift in our neighborhood. He was more of an extended father. David was the type of person you never saw his worries, pain nor suffering. He always told me every bad has a good. Never focus on the bad because it weighs you down the good is always uplifting. In My Pocket
I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.
My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.
They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.
Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.
But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.
