Emma Blanche Smith

SMITH, Emma Blanche Hoskins, age 71, of Howerton, Virginia, departed this life Sunday, April 11, 2010, at her residence. She was a retired teacher's assistant with the Essex County School System. She is survived by her husband, Spurgeon Lewis Smith; one daughter, Estelle Derricott of Montpelier; two sons, Spurgeon Alphonso of Millers Tavern and Swan Dale of Indianapolis, Ind.; one sister, Mary H. Hill of Walkerton; one brother, James W. Hoskins of New York City; four grandchildren, Tamika, Vincent, Jaye Marie, Brandon; and one great-grandchild, DaSean. Visitation will be Friday, April 16, from 2 to 8 p.m. at Washington Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 17, at 1 p.m. at Grace Episcopal Church, Millers Tavern, with Father Vincent Hodge officiating.
