Floyd McCOY Obituary

Published by Richmond Times-Dispatch from Oct. 21 to Oct. 22, 2009.
McCOY, Floyd Blair Jr., 90, of Richmond, Va., died October 20, 2009. "Mac" was born on June 7, 1919 in Roanoke, Va. He was a graduate of Vanderbilt University in mechanical engineering and the University of Houston in electrical engineering. He had a lifelong love of flight and earned his pilot's license while still in high school. He began working for Reynolds Metals upon graduation from college but his career was interrupted by WWII. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in the Pacific theater. Mac resumed his career with Reynolds after the war and was employed as an engineer and executive there for over 40 years. At one point he was a member of a team that patented a process for improving aluminum production. He retired from Reynolds in 1984 as the Vice President and Managing Director of a subsidiary, Reycan Research. He was predeceased by his wife, Margaret H. McCoy; his wife Nellie B. McCoy; and a sister, Elaine M. Conley. He is survived by a daughter, Melinda M. Glass and her husband, Michael, of Richmond; and a grandson, Palmer B. Nesbit of Kannapolis, N.C. He was a member of First Baptist Church. Interment will be private and held at the St. John's Episcopal Church cemetery in Columbia, Tenn. The family suggests that those wishing to do so may honor Mac's memory by contributions to the Tuckahoe Volunteer Rescue Squad or to The USO. Arrangements are being handled by The Cremation Society of Virginia.
