Garvin was a friend. Our friendhip began during our University of Richmond days. Once, he invited me to teach a study course in his church. When my wife was invited to Goldsboro, he and his wife graciously invited us to have dinner in their home... He was such a Christian. My life is richer for knowing him.

Pastor Martin was a blessing to all who knew him. We send our heart felt sympathy to his entire family and know we are praying for you. Garvin is with his Lord now and is rejoicing. His legacy is one of humble devotion to his God, his family, and his church. How blessed we feel to have been a part of his church family. He truly was a "good and faithful servant".

I was saddened to hear of the passing of Rev. Garvin Martin, but at the same time, confident he passed from this world into Heaven. He was truly a humble Christian shepherd. He was a soft spoken man who was slow to wrath and quick to lead. He walked with the Lord in this world and I am sure he is in His presence now, along with his wonderful, bubbly wife, Charlotte, who spread joy to everyone she saw. Garvin was very reserved, while Chalotte was outgoing. Their personalities complimented each other and they were loved by all. I was a previous member of Bethany Place Baptist Church where this wonderful Christian couple had a great influence on my life. Sincerely, Virginia Johnson , now living in Mobile, Alabama

Dear Family, I am so thankful for the
years of Christian leadership and fellowship we shared there at BPBC under Garvin. His love of Christ and firm beliefs demonstrated his true self as a Godly man. I thank God for him. I know you children/grandchildren and all the family will miss him but what an inheritance to know where
your loved one is. Praise the Lord.
In Christian Love, Dale McCollum and family.

Granddaddy IS incredible. I wish you all would stop saying he's dead... because he's not. He is very much alive, and he's healthy and happy in Heaven with Grandmamma. I still hurt, believe me, but he IS up there, better than ever. I love him and I'll miss him until my day comes.

I am forever grateful for Reverend Martin. He profoundly touched my life. He was a true Godly vessel; my soul sings praises. Reverend Martin was a true reflection of God's humility and love. (2 Cor. 3:18 But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord (KJV). In sorrow, Cecelia

The world has lost an awesome man, but he has gone home. I am forever thankful for the teaching and mentoring he provided me as a child, teenager, and young adult. Pastor Martin was one of the best role models anyone could ever have!

We were deeply saddened to hear of Garvin's passing and yet rejoice that we KNOW he is with the LORD. What a man of God. He joined in marriage my parents, Lloyd and Linda Kelley (married 50 years) and ourselves, Lewis Eugene "Gene" and Valerie Kelley Alley (married 28 years). The whole world did not know him, unlike Billy Graham, but he was a type of Billy Graham to us, and all that knew him. He lived an exemplary life dedicated to the Lord Jesus Christ. Our condolences to the family members and close friends who remain behind for a while longer. May the God we serve lighten the heartache of today and bring joy in the morning.

Garvin was a true example of a "shepherd" who took care of his flock. He cared for them, he prayed for them and he watched out for them. What a true man of God he was here on this earth and now he is with the saints rejoicing up in heaven and I am sure he had a few questions upon his arrival. It was a true blessing to have him as my pastor for 13 years and he will be missed by all.

Since I learned about your Dad, I've thought of you often and said a prayer each time that you feel comfort in friends, family, and knowledge that he left this world knowing where he would spend eternity. My thoughts continue with you.

Garvin holds a special place in our hearts and memories as he shepherded us through our first years of parenting. You children and grandchildren are blessed and have great shoes to fill. Steve & Evelyn Biles

What a shepherd! I've never known a man to walk the walk and talk the talk like Pastor Martin. His walk with GOD will forever encourage us to seek GOD first in our lives. Pastor Martin married my husband and I 20 years ago. Our service was beautiful but Pastor's Martin words of GOD'S love and commitment were far more beautiful. He married us that cold December day, but the message he concluded our wedding with that day touched so many lives. Because of his message, two couples that were headed for divorce are together today. We're so blessed to have known and loved him. He will forever live in our hearts and continue to challenge us to live for our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We will miss knowing he is physically not here but know he is safely home forever serving his Lord and Master.
Our prayers and thoughts are with his family.

It was a privilege for Debbie and I to serve with Garvin in the early eighties at Bethany Place. Garvin's no-nonsense, practical and biblical approach in ministering from the pulpit and pastoral ministry yet, with a kind and humble spirit was a real inspiration to us and the congregation that he served. I have always considered him a spiritual mentor and Garvin was a major influence in my decision to go into full-time Christian ministry. We rejoice at his going home but join the family in experiencing the loss of such a great servant of Christ.

One of the truely blessed souls has returned home with the Lord. There are no words that can begin to encompass the meaning that Garvin has meant to all of us. I will forever have my memories of a california raisin-sax playing pastor on a youth retreat to football on the side of the church through the years of heart-felt lessons on sunday. May God continue to be with his family and those he pastored, steward, and served for all these years....Thank you Garvin.....

Garvin Martin and I went to school together and to Woodland Heights Baptist Church together where we were baptized. He was a Cadet in "E" Company at John Marshall High School and I am so proud that I wore his colors. I introduced him to his wife, Charlotte, my friend too, and when they married, I was in their wedding. We go back a long time, but Garvin saved me and I know He is with Jesus, rejoicing with Charlotte and sitting at the feet of Jesus. What a beautiful person, what a wonderful God fearing man! I hope to see him again.
God bless the Martin family. He loved his mother and I know he is with his Mother in heaven. What a privilege to have been his friend for a long time.
Thank you, Garvin, for everything you did for me, even preaching at Mt.Hermon Baptist Church in Moseley,Va.
I will be there in spirit since I live so far away. If I could get to Bethany Placce Church, I surely would.

We selected Rev. Martin as our missionary. THANKS BE UNTO GOD FOR HIS

Words cannot even begin to express the impact that Pastor Martin had on my life. He was most certainly the humble shepherd of his flock. I am overwhelmed with gratitude for his life and his dedication to the Lord's service. I am rejoicing today knowing that he is kneeling at the Lord's throne hearing these words, "well done my good and faithful servant." Much love and prayers to the Martin family during this time.

Reverend Martin made a huge impact on my life as a former youth of Bethany Place Baptist, as well as my fellow youth and congregation. He will be missed greatly here on earth, but I'm happy he has finally made it home. See you soon!!
