Helen BURNETT Obituary

BURNETT, Helen Anderson, was born March 1, 1915 to Walter Claude and Virginia Hudson Burnett. She was married to Mark Irving Burnett who preceded her in 1989. Mrs. Burnett kept active throughout her life by rearing four sons and her devoted duty to Buffalo Baptist Church as director of music, and pianist. After moving to South Boston, she became an active member of First Baptist Church. She also was an active member of the Berryman Green Chapter of the DAR. She enjoyed a good life of health which only began to deteriorate over the past couple of years. She has a number of brothers and sisters who predeceased her; and only her brother, Cecil of Halifax County, Va., survives her. Her grace and elegance will be remembered by those who knew her. Survivors include four sons, Mark Burnett and wife, Diane, of Highland Ranch, Colo., William A. Burnett of Advance, N.C., Dr. Gerald C. Burnett and wife, Joy, of South Boston, and Thomas H. Burnett and wife, Alice, of Midlothian, Va.; ten grandchildren, a number of great-grandchildren; one brother, Walter C. "Cecil" Anderson of Halifax. Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 26, 2009, 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church in South Boston with the Rev. Dave Anderson and the Rev. Susan Davis conducting the service. Burial will follow at the Gravel Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Powell Funeral Home on Sunday evening from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and other times at the home of Gerald and Joy Burnett, 1108 Washington Avenue, South Boston.
