McCANDLESS, Hilda Bailey, 85, of Dinwiddie County, passed away Saturday, April 10, 2010. Born in Beargrass, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Raleigh C. and Icelene Davenport Bailey. Mrs. McCandless was preceded in death by a sister, Kathleen Barber; and a brother, Lester Barber. She is survived by her husband, Gordon L. McCandless; son, Melvin McCandless and wife, Janice; daughter, Barbara Jellison and husband, Dale; grandchildren, Jason McCandless and Sonya Hardison and husband, Stuart; stepgrandchildren, Chuck, Jeff and Dwain Billmyer; brothers, Dallas Barber and Jasper Barber; sister, Mary Myers. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, April 13, at Virginia Veterans Cemetery, Amelia, Va. The family will receive friends after the service. Friends in Virginia told my mother, Tootsie Merten, that Hilda had passed away. Mom wanted me to let you know how much she enjoyed knowing Hilda and you as neighbors on Pinecroft.
