James Cotman Obituary

COTMAN, James Monroe Sr., 85, a lifelong resident of Hopewell, passed away Monday, February 1, 2010. He retired from Continental Can, Stone Container after 37 years and was co-owner of Blackwells for numerous years. He was a member of the Optimist Club and the Moose Lodge. He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley G. Cotman; and parents, Waverly and Annie Hill Cotman. He is survived by his children, Kathy Cotman Lambert and husband, Mark, Woodson W. Cotman and wife, Debbie, Karen Cotman Spain and husband, Kevian, Kay Cotman Patton and husband, Steve, and James Monroe Cotman Jr. and wife, Tammy; 12 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Virginia Fayed and Dorothy Mabry; a special friend, Jean Howdock; and numerous loving family members. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 3, 2010 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, February 4, 2010 in the funeral home chapel, with the Rev. Bob Breckinridge officiating. Interment will follow in Bermuda Memorial Park. Contribution may be made to The American Red Cross, P.O. Box 1261, Hopewell, Va. 2386,0 or The American Heart Association, P.O. Box 5216, Glen Allen, Va. 23261. Condolences may be registered with jtmorriss.com.
