Jean McClure Obituary

Published by Richmond Times-Dispatch from Apr. 23 to Apr. 25, 2010.
McCLURE, Jean Mann, died peacefully Tuesday, April 20, 2010, at age 87, in a Richmond hospital, after a brief illness. Born in Richmond, Mrs. McClure was the widow of William G. McClure Jr., to whom she was married for nearly 65 years. She was born in Richmond and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School with the Class of 1939. She is survived by her sister, Mildred Mann Barret of Mechanicsville, Va.; three sons, William G. McClure III and his wife, Wyckie, of Richmond, R. Leonard McClure and his wife, Brenda, of Heathrow, Florida, and Dr. F. Daniel McClure and his wife, Marion, of Charlottesville; five grandchildren, Kathryn McClure Fallen of Richmond, Mollie McClure of Oakland, California, Brandon McClure of Deland, Florida, Jessica McClure and Carey McClure, each of Richmond; and three great-grandsons, Gray McClure of Deland, Florida, and Myles and Owen Fallen of Richmond. She was a past president of the Monacan Women's Club, an active member of the Virginia Federation of Women's Clubs for many years and a passionate devotee of Bridge. She is best remembered by her family and many friends as one of the sweetest, most gentle, and most generous souls who ever lived. Her gentle nature belied the toughness required to raise three boys. If the greatest generation had given medals to mothers of little boys, her chest would have been filled. The family will receive friends at the Parham Chapel of Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Road, on Sunday, April 25, from 6 to 8 p.m. A celebration of Mrs. McClure's life will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, April 26, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 903 Forest Avenue, Richmond. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the McClure Scholarship Fund at Trinity United Methodist Church, 903 Forest Avenue, Richmond, Virginia, or to the William G. and Jean M. McClure '43 Scholarship Fund at The VMI Foundation, P.O. Box 932, Lexington, Va. 24450.

I did not know this family, but I have no doubt we are related [to the McClures] This sounds like the Wm McClure who lived in another Richmond, [Indiana] This wife was an RN and from 30 years ago, a dear sweet lady. There are some Manns here as well! Rest in peace Jean McClure---For the family, the ache will get better, but you never forget a good person. Thank you for letting me barge into a painful moment.

Leonard;
I am so sorry.
If my experience is any help, you will never stop missing her, but with time missing her will begin to hurt less.
Take care.

Leonard - Our hearts in sympathy and prayers go out to you and your family following the news on the loss of your beloved Mother. It was special to see you after so many years and I really enjoyed meeting your lovely wife Brenda--a kind and sweet spirit that matches up well with you. Thank you so much for coming to the Reunion--your presence enriched the memories, spirits and fellowship felt by all of your Brother Rats. God Bless you and your family. Mike and Jeannie Carruth

I have many fond memories of coming into their home when I was a child who played a lot with Leonard & Danny. I lived behind them on Brookside Rd.

Mrs. McClure always welcomed you into her home even as a kid... and I loved the WWII stories from Mr. McClure. I have thought of him often recently after watching the HBO show entitled, "The Pacific".

What I remember the most.... when Mrs. McClure spoke from her gentle voice, both Leonard and Danny listen... Including myself when she spoke to me.

GOD Bless the family, and I am sorry for your loss Billy, Leonard, and Danny. Many many fond memories of growing up in that wonderful neighborhood and your mom and dad were a wonderful part of it...
