It is with a very heavy heart to write this condolence. Jeff was terrific. He had smiles galore and hugs that wouldn't stop. Scott and I had the best time with him in the choir. My mom also loved Jeff dearly. Now they can sing in the heavenly choir together (when he is not fishing). Our deepest sympathy and our heartfelt prayers go to you, Cathy and the children. We love you and miss you all. Jeff, we love you and will miss you dearly. Andy, Scott, and Michael Warner

Is it possible to be a better person for just having known someone? If that person was Jeff – YES! Every life he touched, ever so gently, benefited in one way or another, from his touch – or his bear hug! No man loved his family more. Please know, dear Cathy, CJ and Kelsey, that you are always in my prayers. I know that you know Jeff is Home.

I met Jeff a little over a year ago. He was not in my immediate department at Capital One; however, he knew I was a new face. He was one of the first people I met – he walked right up to me. He wanted to know about me and my family. I was humbled by his kindness and sincere effort to make me feel welcome. We both shared a love for the Washington Redskins. I looked forward to talking with him every week.

I appreciate how much he cared about people. He was a positive force who could make the most negative person smile. Your family will remain in my thoughts and prayers. He touched the lives of many and he will be remembered fondly. I will always remember his smile and kindness.

Jeff will truly be missed as he was one of a kind: an honest, caring, and true family man.

During our annual golf outing, Jeff was always the level-headed voice of reason and positivity - time and again he made us smile, laugh, and really appreciate being together. Most of all, he shared wonderful stories about his family and never forgot to ask about others. That's what I will always remember about him.

Condolences to his loved ones during this difficult time.

I know Jeff from growing up in Spring Meadows. His sister Cindy and all of us used to play ball and act like usual soon to be teenagers. A great guy always up for a game of ball. Coming from a strong church going family and a Mom who stood stong in her church ways. Just a great family overall. Though I left early to go live in the country w/ my father I never forgot the love, fun and just general growing up we all shared during those few years. Certain things come along in our lives that make lasting impressions. Jeff was one of those folks along with all of his family. He always came to see my Granny and bring his children when he came home. I'll never forget how she loved those visits and talked about them for days after he was gone. It's great how neighbors across the street from each other can form bonds that last forever though we grow up and go our seperate ways, still our parents keep us all connected. I always heard and knew that Jeff was a man of God. A Good Father, Husband, Brother,Son & Friend. Though years were cut short he never lost his faith, love of life and a man whose legacy leaves all I know, knowing a truly good man for all to admire.

All I could think of after his passing was that everyone's prayers were answered but maybe not in the way we as humans wanted but in a way God set forth for all admire! He IS TOTALLY HEALED now and I'm sure his children and family will know his presence forever.

The Alred Family- I was heartbroken to learn of Jeff's passing. We were co-workers at Capital One for many years, but more importantly he was a friend. He always had a smile on his face and time to share a moment and chat. I remember he was one of the first people I told when I found out I was expecting twins. He was so excited for me and shared in my happiness. I remember when he and Cathy were expecting each of their children and how he was so excited because he always wanted to name his daughter Kelsey. We were recently able to connect online and I am so grateful that we were able to exchange a few messages. Thoughts and prayers to Jeff's family and friends. Rest In Peace my friend. -Wendy Clark Martin

Jeff was the man who took me on as a brand new college graduate and shaped me into his likeness as a manager. While I can never say I achieved his abilities with people, I can say that he changed the way I worked and helped me be successful. But, it wasn't his impact on my work life that was the greatest, it was his impact on my personal life that affected me the most. One day at Capital One in 2001, he mentioned after seeing me interact with a co-worker that he could see the two of us having a future together. His words touched a cord in me and sparked the idea that later became my marriage. The day before Jeff's death Kelley and I celebrated our 9th wedding anniversary and I can honestly say that we probably wouldn't be together today if he hadn't shared his insight with me so long ago. I will forever be thankful for Jeff's soft spoken but powerful words. You will be missed Jeff. You were a great man!

Jeff and I started out at Bank of Virginia Bankcard way back in the old days when Pat Kirby was running the Adjustments Dept.Jeff was my best friend in those days . He always was able to turn an otherwise bad day into a fun event. We had many good laughs together during our lunch breaks in the cafeteria where we would dicuss our female coleagues, especially one MISS "Priddy" who would become his life partner and mother of his children. Jeff was a class act in every measure. The world was a better place for having him in it and all of us that knew him are blessed to have had such a kind and decent and funny man in their lives. I know he will go on to a better place.

It's so hard to accept the fact that Jeff is no longer with us. He was a true inspiration to many and very genuine at heart. I had the pleasure of knowing Jeff from Capital One over the past 16 years. It never seemed to matter how much time had passed from when we last saw each other. I was always greeted with a huge smile and a desire to want to know what I was up to.

Cathy - like others here have mentioned, he was so proud of his family and beamed when he spoke of any of you all.

There is no doubt that Jeff touched many lives and will be remembered always. I don't think I can walk down the halls of Capital One and not think about Jeff. I am so grateful for the time we were able to share together. Rest in peace my friend.

The brightest of lights often burn out way too fast. Jeff Alred, my friend, shared his light with everyone he met. Jeff appreciated life, lived it fully and constantly built others up regardless of the situation he himself was facing. I am so proud to be his friend and know that my own light is brighter because of Jeff.

Way back in the early 90's Jeff encouraged me to take up golf as a hobby. His stories of good times and camaraderie led me to a lifelong joy of the game. In 1996 Jeff and I started an annual golf tournament, affectionately known as the "Kirby Cup" where the grandest prize goes to the most average of golfers. For the past 14 years, except one when Jeff was on a church retreat, he and I have gotten together to play in the Kirby Cup - with our pals Matt Hines and Tom Abraham we won the coveted Medal of Mediocrity an unprecedented FIVE times. I will truly miss those precious days when after the hustle and bustle of getting 100+ golfers out on the course I could slide into the cart beside Jeff, catch my breath and we would catch up and count all the blessings in our lives. Now that is true fellowship.

To Jeff's family - thank you so much for sharing Jeff with his work family at Capital One. Jeff made an impact everywhere he went in the company - in productivity and in hearts. He bragged on each of you, from Mom and Dad to Cathy to CJ and Kelsey - and at no times was his smile larger or eyes brighter - Jeff knew he was blessed.

Jeff was a very good friend of mine, we sang together in the choir at Providence United Methodist Church. He was one of the most amazing people I have ever known, He touched our lives in more ways that I can ever put in words. I will miss his smile, his laugh, his bear hugs and his friendship! He was an inspiration to everyone he met. His faith never ever waivered, no matter what. He fought his final battle with cancer with strengh and dignity which is not surprising because that was the way he lived his life. We love you Jeff! My prayers and love are now and will always be with Cathy, CJ and Kelsey. We are here if you need us, Always. (Julie Fleshman, Richmond, VA)

Jeff was my manager years ago and made an impact on my life. He was one of the kindest men that I have ever known and I will remember the words of encouragement and spirituality that he shared with me. I will miss him.

I worked with Jeff way back in the Signet days and he was one of the most personable people I have ever met in my life. You could tell he just had a kind heart and was a really great person. I never saw him without a smile on his face just like this picture! He was truely a one of a kind person, you know, the type of person you rarely meet in life. It was a privledge to have known such a wonderful human being! My condolences to the family.
