Joseph Jenkins Jr. Funeral HomeWalter Frank Jenkins Jr., born on February 19, 1957, in Richmond, Virginia, passed away on July 25, 2025. A loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Walter's warm spirit touched the lives of all who knew him.
He was a dedicated culinary professional, serving as the Head Chef at Encompass Rehabilitation Hospital. Prior to this role, he showcased his talents as the Executive Chef at the Holiday Inn Crossroads and as a Sous Chef at the Berkley Hotel and Banquet Chef at Hotel John Marshall. His culinary craftsmanship was matched only by his kind heart and compassionate demeanor, as he approached both cooking and life with a service-oriented attitude and a great sense of humor.
Walter was a proud alumnus of Maggie L. Walker High School, graduating with the class of 1975. He also served honorably in the United States Air Force for eight years, a testament to his commitment to serving his country.
In addition to his professional life, Walter had a variety of hobbies and interests that included reading, macramé, bowling, cooking, darts, chess, martial arts, particularly Wing Chun, and a deep appreciation for history. Notably, he took great pride in his accomplishment of becoming certified as an ice sculptor—a skill that showcased his artistic flair and creativity.
Walter is survived by his beloved wife, Saundra L. Jenkins; daughter Kamille Jenkins; two sons, Terry Sr. (Nikki) and Chauncey (MaryAnn) Jenkins; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Patricia Matthews and Sheila Lyles; brother-in-law Victor Lyles (Simone); as well as several cousins and other relatives and friends among them first wife Connye Jefferson who will cherish his memory.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Berta and Walter F. Jenkins Sr.
A funeral service in honor of Walter Frank Jenkins Jr. will take place on August 22, 2025, at Joseph Jenkins Jr. Funeral Home in Richmond, Virginia, at 2:00 PM, with a gathering beginning at 1:30PM.
Walter's legacy of kindness, culinary passion, and vibrant spirit will continue to inspire those who had the privilege to know him.
