Highfill family,
I was privileged to have spend the last few days with Kate. She was a woman of strength and humility and her first love was the Lord! She did nothing but talk about her loving family and how much she appreciated each any every one of you. I hope we were able to touch her life as much as she touched ours.
I know she is dancing in Heaven; pain free!

I saw Kate every week in the 80s and 90s at Courtside West. I'm glad I knew her.

Dear Scott and all of the Highfills,
I had no idea that your mom was so sick and was shocked to hear that she had passed away. I am so sorry. I always loved talking with her at Courtside and always admired her sweet nature and "toughness" through all that she endured physically as well as raising all of you (just kidding) about that part.
I KNOW you will really miss her. Please know that Dennis and I are thinking of you and praying for you.
Love, Pam (McWaters)

Highfill Family,
I am so sorry for your loss. You are in my thoughts and prayers. I have fond memories of Kate as one of our neighborhood moms and the fun, carefree times of the '60's and '70's on Maybeury Drive. I hope it is comforting for you to know that she is once again pain-free and in a peaceful place.

Thanks for sharing the photos. It makes me aware that there were many happy moments in Kate's life with family and friends even though she was in pain so much of the time. She was a real trouper and an inspiration to everyone with whom she had contact.

Kate was a second Mom to me growing up. She always made me feel like I was one of her children. I was in her home so much she must have thought I was her son. She gave all of us so much confidence to tackle any challenge that life could dish out. She led by example. She always seemed prepared to accept any situation or delema, conquer it, and move on. If Kate had been in charge of New Orleans in 2004. Hurricane Katrina would have felt like a summer shower. This quality shows in all her children, especially in Scott, my life long best friend. Kate was one of the strongest and toughest people I have ever known. She was also a refreshing burst of energy, loving, kind, patient, and wise. The world was a better place with Kate. She holds a special place in my heart that will stay with me always... John Guinn

To Katie and The Highfill Family:
I wanted to extend my deep and sincere condolences to you and your entire family. In the few years I was associated with Mrs. Highfill and the family, I truly enjoyed those very special times. She was always filled with love, compassion, caring, and a pleasant smile anytime I and my sons were around her. As my Dad just passed away this past March, I know that the present is so very difficult, but please go in the knowledge that she is in a happier place and her love will be forever be with you as you travel this earthly journey.
Sincerely,
David, Tyler and Jordan Atkins

I only met Mrs. Highfill a few times and only for a few minutes. I know she was a great person though because I know her sons Scott and Marc. These are two men that treat everyone with kindness and respect...something learned from their parents. I know they will miss their mom and I feel for their loss.
