Laura Bremner Obituary

Published by Richmond Times-Dispatch on Nov. 21, 2010.
BREMNER, Laura Ann Cook, died Thursday, November 18, 2010. She will be remembered as a faithful communicant of Grace Episcopal Church, a Hospice Volunteer in Goochland County, and as one of "The Girls" with Nancy Wood and Ann Hamner. She is survived by a daughter, Ellen Bain Bremner Smith; a like-a-son, Michael Willis Smith; grandchildren, Dr. Michael Willis Smith Jr., Ann Maury Smith and Ashley Davies Bremner Smith; special nieces, nephews and godchildren; and her loving friend and caregiver, Mrs. Dale Henley. She was the mother who brushed the daughter's hair a hundred times every night, told bedtime stories about an Antelope (always with a moral), and accommodated a menagerie of creatures great and small. She was the grandmother (Gram) who made a walk to the pond magic, kicked a soccer ball in her denim wrap skirt, made laboring in the garden a privilege, especially for the child wielding the hoe, and served up the best macaroni and cheese on the face of the earth. The widow of William Bremner, she will rest beside him after a private burial. The family will welcome friends at the Norman Funeral Home in Goochland Courthouse on Sunday, from 2 until 4 p.m., and celebrate her 90 years in a service at 2 p.m. Monday, at Grace Episcopal Church. It is her wish that in lieu of flowers, gifts be made to the Grace Episcopal Church Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 698, Goochland, Va. 23063.

Dear Ellen Bain,
I am so sorry to learn of your Mother's death. I know you are comforted that she is now at peace, and the wonderful memories that you have will always be with you in your heart and mind. The obituary that you wrote was a tender tribute to a very special lady, mother and grandmother.
Love, Gay

Ellen Bain and family. What a lovely tribute to your mom! Take good care, and as the poet said "be of love a little more careful" all this holiday season. Love from Elizabeth Mitchell Laubhan far far away
