Mabel Gates

GATES, Mabel Manuel, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 22, 2009. God received an angel when he chose her. She was the widow of Howard Vernon Gates of Richmond and of Highland Springs. She is survived by her sister, Audrey Manuel Glenn; nephew, Arthur (Skeeter) Glenn and wife, Susan; several nieces, Clara Manuel Taylor of Hopewell, Thelma Manuel Deal of Richmond, Linda Manuel Painter and husband, Ellis of Cartersville, Va.; three great-nieces, 14 great-nephews; cousin, Carrie Tribble. Mable is also survived by her faithful caregivers, Dee Carter, Janice Roach, and Louise Rogers; and a faithful church friend, Edna Flemming. She was a member of Woodland Heights Baptist Church for over 70 years. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., Richmond, Va., where services will be held at 12 p.m. Wednesday. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
