Martha Jane Albus was always a star in my world. She was such a warm and encouraging art teacher and her encouragement helped me to grow in the art field from my earliest days at St. Michael's. I treasure a photo of the two of us from one of the bazaars there. Her talents were immense. What a treat it was to see a show of her paintings! My heart goes out to the family for the loss of an extraordinary person.

When I was a student at St. Michael's in the 60's/70's, Mrs. Albus was a favorite with all the students. Her enthusiasm and good nature made her art classes a special time. I have enjoyed seeing her over the years since then, and will always remember her kindness when my mother died. My sympathy to the Albus and Shands families.

I have such wonderful memories of your Mother/wife. I grew up on Jimmy Winters Road. She painted a portrait for my mother, Audrey Ligon. It is a portrait of my daughter, Erin when she was only three years old. In the portrait Erin doesn't have a smile on her face but her expression captures her personality exactlty. Not many have that gift. Every time I see the portrait I think Of Martha Jane.
You all are in our thoughts and prayers.

Dear Winston, I just received the sad news of your Mom's passing. I have so many fond memories of her. I believe she is responsible for bringing out the creative side in me which has stayed with me throughout my life. She always had so many fun activities for you and I to do when we were kids, like finding smooth rocks in the creek and painting them, or making something out of clay and waiting for the kiln to finish firing them. She always let us make onion dip and brownies (not eaten together of course), and I still love both to this day!
I'm so sorry for your loss. She was obviously loved by many and I know she will be deeply missed. My thoughts are with you and your family during this difficult time.

Dear Jack and Family,
Aubrey and I were saddened to read about Martha Jane's passing. We must have missed the first announcement and just saw it yesterday (12/17). We feel blessed to have been long-time friends with Martha Jane, Jack, and family. Martha Jane was a wonderful, talented, and bubbly lady. Will never forget her inviting smile and sweet personality. We are so glad that we have one of her pieces of art hanging in our home. Our last gathering was for lunch at Crab Louie's about a year ago (fun wonderful memory for us).
God Bless Jack, John Jr., and Winston. Know that we share your sorrow. May your memories comfort you. With much love, Aubrey and "Rosie" Tarkington

I was so very sorry to hear about Martha Jane's passing. She was one of my favorite friends in the choir at St. Michael's for many years. She will be missed by all of us here in Bon Air. She and Jack were the backbone of St. Michael's Church and all who knew her loved her.
My sympathy goes out to all of you at this very sad time but she will be remembered by the many lovely paintings she leaves behind. We have one here at the Bluff's community house and I will think of her every time I look at those beautiful Queen Anne's Lace.

I will always smile thinking of Mrs. Albus and my art classes with her at St. Michael's. She was always so kind and encouraging. I still have some of the clay pots that she helped me make. I loved seeing her at church over the past few years and will miss her kind smiles and warm hugs. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

I was a student at Bon Air ELementary school many years ago-there were only four classrooms then- when Mrs. Albus came to the school one day a week and taught us art. She was always very patient with those of use who were not to say the least very "artiscally" gifted but she treated all of us as though we were the next Monet or VanGogh.
I know that she will be missed by her entire family and by the many friends that she made along the way. My thoughts and prayers are with you all-

I remember your Mom well. I lived behind you on Brookwood Rd. As an adult I ran into her at a Bon Air Festival. She had a painting for sale of the old, old post office, but it had the tennis court in the painting. I said," I love the painting and want to buy it. I remeber going to the post office, across from St Michael's and the pool. I said" The tennis court wasn't there then." With that your Mom offered to take out the tennis court. She remembered it without the court too. We talked of old Bon Air for awhile. She took the painting home, tooked out the tennis court, and I picked it up later. It was a sweet visit with her. It hangs in my dining room. I know you will miss her. I hope the memeories will sustain you through the loss. Charlotte Moore Davenport
PS I believe my Dad worked with your Dad on starting St. Michael's.
