Martha NICHOLS Obituary

Published by Richmond Times-Dispatch on Nov. 1, 2009.
NICHOLS, Martha, age 97, widow of Joseph Nichols, peacefully passed away on Thursday, October 29, 2009. Born in Huntington, Ind. on November 30, 1911, she was a graduate of Purdue University and a proud, active member of the Alpha Chi Omega fraternity and alumni group for 77 years. Mrs. Nichols was a member of The Tuckahoe Women's Club, The Commonwealth Women's Club, the VMFA, and the Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden. She joined Trinity Methodist Church in 1946 and taught kindergarten there for 17 years. She managed and staffed the cafeteria when Tuckahoe Elementary School opened. She could often be found at someone's bridge table or cooking a gourmet meal. She loved her home at Cedarfield and her family will never forget Julie, Doris, Betty, Regina, Terry, Katie, and all the wonderful people who took such good care of her. Survivors include her daughter, Suzanne N. Harman (Dennis) of Ashland; grandson, Gregory Harman (Laura) of Lake Villa, Ill.; granddaughter, Julie O'Hanley (Frank) of Mechanicsville; and five wonderful great-grandchildren, Kennedy and Chase O'Hanley, and Reid, Ian, and Spencer Harman. Memorial service will be private. Contributions in her memory can be made to a charity of your choice.

We are all very sad to hear of Aunt Martha's passing. I will always cherish my memories of running through their house off River Road and eating entirely too much good food with her and Uncle Joe whenever we went over to visit them. I know these last years weren't the easiest, but know that our thoughts are with you all during this time.

All our love,
Chris Kaldahl and family
