Owen FIELDS Obituary

FIELDS, Dr. Owen F., 72, of Cumberland, passed away Thursday, September 2, 2010 at his residence. Dr. Fields was born September 29, 1937 in Smithfield, Pa. He was a son of the late Owen F. Fields and Ethel L. Rhoderick Fields. He served his country in the United States Air Force entering on May 19, 1959 and was an instrumentalist in the U.S.A.F. Band. He was discharged in 1967. He studied at Waynesburg College and completed his studies at the University of Pittsburgh, obtaining a Ph.D in Business Education. He was a Professor at Virginia Commonwealth University in the School of Business, and he completed his career as a tenured Professor at Longwood University. Owen enjoyed belonging to the American Legion Post 400 in Carmichaels, Pa. He was a parishioner of St. Theresa Roman Catholic Church in Farmville. Dr. Fields always gained avid enjoyment from listening to classical music. He is survived by his sisters, Hazel L. McCann "Orty" and Vicki L. Ross; his brother, James E. Fields "Jay"; his lifelong devoted friend, Edwin A. Sebolt "Duffy"; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Shirley R. Stillwagon. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, September 7, 2010, 10 a.m. at St. Theresa's Catholic Church. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Theresa's Catholic Church.
