AKERS, Patrick Daniel, 94, of Chesterfield, passed away on Friday, April 30, 2010 at Chippenham Medical Center. He was the son of the late William D. and Margaret Gleason Akers. Mr. Akers was a Virginia State Trooper for 34 years. He is survived by his very devoted wife of 68 years, Wanda Akers; two daughters, Debra Berry and husband, Vance, of Richmond, and Donna Sargent and husband, Joe, of Chesterfield; and four grandchildren, Jennifer and Courtney Sargent and Elizabeth and Trey Berry. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 4, 2010 in the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard, with the Reverend Carl Weaver officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Chester. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Ivey Memorial United Methodist Church, 17120 Jefferson Davis Highway, Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834. Its times like these that make us all realize all the special times that special people like Mr. Akers has given to all.
