Phillip ARNEST Obituary

ARNEST, Phillip Griffith, of Westminster-Canterbury Richmond, died June 8, 2011. Born July 18, 1924 at Poplar Hill, Hague, Va., Phil attended William and Mary one year before entering Navy Flight Training Program in 1942. After World War II he studied at the Corcoran School of Art in Washington, D.C., and then began a career in advertising, animation, slide films, motion pictures, and other graphic art projects. During that time he was President of the Washington Film Council. After retirement in 1986 he moved to Kinsale, Va., and began painting marine and wildlife art. He exhibited in waterfowl art shows in Virginia, Maryland and Delaware, and his works are in many private collections in this country and abroad. Phil was devoted to his family and his church and served them both well in his lifetime. He was an avid hunter and staunch supporter of Ducks Unlimited. He is survived by his wife, Anne Atkinson Arnest (Scottie); son, Tyler of Bradenton, Fla.; and daughter, Beth Grieco; granddaughters, Carter and Emily Grieco of Charlotte, N.C. A Celebration of Life will be held at Westminster-Canterbury Richmond on Wednesday, June 15, at 2 p.m. A service with inurnment to follow will take place on Saturday, June 18 at 11 a.m. at Yeocomico Church, Kinsale, Va. If desired, contributions may be sent to Westminster-Canterbury Foundation for Fellowship, 2600 Westbrook Avenue, Richmond, Va. 23227.
