Polk Neal Obituary

Published by Richmond Times-Dispatch from Dec. 10 to Dec. 11, 2009.
NEAL, Polk Miller, 92, of Richmond, died peacefully, after a full life, Wednesday, December 9, 2009. He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Cornelia Hume Neal; and his devoted brother, Alex. He is survived by his two sons, Polk M. Neal Jr. and his wife, Joan, of Manakin-Sabot and Randolph H. Neal of Richmond; a grandson, John C. Neal and wife, Lauren; and great-grandchild, Hayes; a granddaughter, Sarah Batchelor and husband, Tony; and great-grandson, Michael. As an electrician, Polk was a 60-year member of local union #666 I.B.E.W. His love of tennis was eclipsed only by his love of the great outdoors. He was a member of the Goodloe Hunt Club and shot his last turkey at age 85. He was a lifelong member of St. James's Episcopal Church. He will be remembered by many friends as a fine gentleman and sportsman. The family will receive friends Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Central Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 3215 Cutshaw Ave. A graveside service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, December 12, in Hollywood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. James's Episcopal Church, 1205 West Franklin St., Richmond, Va. 23220.
