Randolph LEAKE Obituary

Published by Richmond Times-Dispatch on Oct. 31, 2009.
LEAKE, Randolph "Randy" Claiborne, 57, of Hanover County, died August 6, 2009. He is survived by his daughter, Ashley Elizabeth Leake; and his son, Brian Claiborne Leake. Randy grew up and lived in Richmond. After graduating from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1969, he held several jobs, including real estate agent for Perry and Company. From the mid '60s until the '80s, he worked at Alvin V. Leake Paint Company on Broad Street in Richmond, much of that time alongside his father, Alvin V. Leake; mother, Lucille C. Leake; uncle, Roderick K. Leake; and his grandparents, Philip Rusk and Anna Hardwicke Leake. In spite of a body limited by FSH muscular dystrophy, he strove to live independently. He made friends easily, enjoyed social occasions, and will be remembered for, among other things, his robust sense of humor and zest for life. His hobbies included fishing on the Chickahominy River and in Marathon, Florida. He loved his friends and family. He will be missed by many. A remembrance service will be held on Wednesday, November 11 at 11 a.m. in the chapel at Mechanicsville Christian Center (www.mccag.org/) and located at 8061 Shady Grove Road in Mechanicsville, Va. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the FSH Society www.fshsociety.org/), the Muscular Dystrophy Association, or the Hanover Fire and EMS www.hanoverfire andems.com/).
