GUY, Richard, 88, passed away peacefully on November 2, 2010, at Woodhaven Hall at Williamsburg Landing. Richie was born and raised in Cranford, New Jersey. In 1944, he graduated from Cornell University School of Engineering and was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. In 1944, he married his "hometown sweetheart," Helen Sperry, with whom he shared 65 happy years. Following his war time military service, they settled in Cranford and he worked for Ingersoll-Rand Company. Richie worked for Ingersoll-Rand until 1970, rising to the head of the division which manufactured and sold earth impacting machinery. From 1964 to 1969, he and Helen and their family lived in Richmond, Va., after which they returned to their roots in Summit, N.J. In 1970, he went to work for Argo Pneumatic Co., Inc., a company engaged in the sale of hydraulic and pneumatic tools. In 1996, Richie and Helen retired to Williamsburg and lived and were active members of the community at Kingsmill. They were members of Williamsburg Presbyterian Church. Richie was predeceased by his much loved wife in September 2009. He is survived by their three children and their spouses, Peter and Betsy Guy of Richmond, Richard and Nancy Guy of Virginia Beach, Lois and Jim Cody of Jamesville, N.Y.; and by six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, Gray Guy and his wife, Rebecca, and their children, Alex and Elizabeth, of Arlington, Va., Rebecca Guy Thompson and her husband, Carl, of Richmond, Margaret Helen Guy of Alexandria, Va., Donald Guy of Cambridge, Mass., and Eileen Cody and Christine Cody of Jamesville, N.Y. A memorial service will be held at the chapel of Central Presbyterian Church in Summit, N.J. at a later date, with interment at the Fairview Cemetery in Westfield, N.J. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Stroke Association, Memorial Processing Center, P.O. Box 5215, Glen Allen, Va. 23058, or the Alzheimer's Association, 6350 Center Drive, Suite 102, Norfolk, Va. 23502. Cremation Society of Virginia is assisting the family.
