Robert Brown Obituary

Published by Richmond Times-Dispatch from Sep. 2 to Sep. 5, 2010.
BROWN, Robert "Mac," of Richmond, Va., passed away Sunday, August 29, 2010 at home. He was predeceased by his parents, John D. and Sara S. Brown. He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Judy Widener Brown; daughters, Catherine Brown and Cindy (Robert) Walley; grandchildren, Alexis, Morgan and Robert; sisters, Betty (Bill) Stinson and Peggy (Barry) Waller; nephew, Michael Stinson; nieces, Karen Stinson and Debra (Charles) Reynolds; and his beloved dog, Comet. As a small boy, Bob loved all things flight related. As a teenager, he worked at Northfield Airport and earned his pilot's license at 16, beginning an aviation career that would span his lifetime. He graduated from Hermitage High School in 1956 and he received a degree in aeronautical engineering from the University of Virginia in 1962. He was then commissioned into the United States Air Force and served until 1969. In his early civilian career, he was a flight instructor. He then worked for Massey Coal Company as a corporate pilot for 21 years and subsequently worked with Murray Wright of W. L. Aircraft until 2002. When he retired from his career as a corporate pilot, he volunteered at the Virginia Aviation Museum. He was a mentor and inspiration to many new and experienced pilots throughout his life. The family invites you to a celebration of his life on Friday, September 24 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Virginia Aviation Museum next to the RIC. Casual attire is appropriate as we share our memories. The family wishes to thank the staff of BrightStar for their love and excellent care, especially Beverly, Cyndi, and Kristal. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Richmond Walk to Defeat ALS, c/o ALS Association DC/MD/VA Chapter, 7507 Standish Place, Rockville, Md. 20855.

It is with a heavy heart when I think of Bobby and his family left behind to grieve the loss of such a kind and gentle soul. Bobby has begun his grand journey filled with only love and happiness forever. I'm sure soon after he arrived with God he reunited with his friends and family gone before him. I'm sure Stuart is welcoming him home too. May you all find comfort and strength to hold your faith knowing he is indeed at peace and circled with love. My prayers are with you.

I was only in your life a short while, but I was glad that I was able to provide you with some comfort. My job now will be to keep the promise that I made to you; that I will help secure the VBA benefits that will take care of Judy for the rest of her life.
