It was always a pleasure to appear in Judge Smith's courtroom, and, since his retirement, he has been missed in Henrico Juvenile Court, where he made a positive difference in many lives. Now he will be very much missed on DeSota Drive.

Dear Nancy Gayle and Bobby, After learning of your Dad's passing, I took time out to reflect on the past years of being in his employment at the law office. Nancy Gayle, you were 5 yrs old and I believe Bobby was 9 years old when I went to work for Bob. I learned so much from not only him but your family as well. I was young, 19 years old and through my daily interactions with your Dad, your Mother and you two young kids I learned what a true loving family was and you were all my mentors, including your Mom and even you two young ones back then. Your Dad was such a good, upstanding, honest and compassionate human being who I looked up to and admired so very much. I am so sorry I can't get there for his service but Nancy Gayle as I told you on the phone, I am sick with the flu and can't get there. You and Bobby are in my and Andy's thoughts and prayers and we will be there with you in spirit. We send our love. Joan and Andy.

Dear Bob and Carol,

I am so sorry to hear about your father. I shall always remember the times he came into the camera shop. He was always pleasant and had a smile on his face. May God be with you all in your time of need and the memories you have of him be good ones.

My thoughts and prayers are with all of the Smiths during this time. Judge Smith was truly a role model and a person I respected and admired alot growing up in River Road Church. His involvement with our youth groups and the memories of the life he lived will be treasured forever by those of us who knew him as we grew up.
