Ruby Carley Obituary

Published by Richmond Times-Dispatch from Dec. 5 to Dec. 6, 2009.
CARLEY, Ruby Rose "Irish," who loved her family, her cat, her crossword puzzles, and a "Manhattan cocktail," born in Brooklyn, N.Y. on December 29, 1924, answered the call of the Lord on December 3, 2009 to join her husband of 46 years, Frank J. Carley Sr. While raising her children, she also spent time as a school bus driver and pre-school teacher. At age 50, she earned her LPN nursing degree and served as a medicine nurse at Ashland Convalescent Center. She is survived by her six children, Kathleen Mary Webb (Dennis), Patricia Anne Meadows (Robert), Frank Jr., Susan Marie Partin (R. Lee), Maureen Elizabeth, and Michael John (Carol). She was loved and will be missed by her 21 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. She was a longtime resident of Ashland, Va. Three years ago, she moved to Summerhill Retirement Community, where she entertained the residents as she sat on her front porch playing her harmonica. The family will welcome friends at the Summerhill Lodge, 9250 Forest Hill Ave., Richmond, Va. on Sunday, December 6, from 2 to 4 p.m., and she will be remembered at a Requiem Mass at St. Anthony's Maronite Catholic Church, 4611 Sadler Rd., Glen Allen, on Monday, December 7, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Richmond SPCA.

I knew your Mom first as those New York kids Mom, then my bus driver and then my co worker. I know she is with "Frank" and missing you all as you are missing the both of them. She loved and was so proud of her whole family. And a good bunch you are. Sorry I missed the visitation. Would have loved to have seen you all.Joining with the rest of my Wilhite clan- May your hearts soon be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times together as you celebrate a life well lived.

Susan, Lee and family: I met your Mom only once but she was a memorable lady. Susan, I can remember your speaking of her and her great love for all of you. May your many memories of her give you comfort in the days ahead. God bless all of you.
