SIMPSON, Ruby Susan Bowman, of Glen Allen, Va., went to be with our Lord on Monday, November 16, 2009, with the peace and comfort of her loving family at her bedside. Born on March 28, 1921 in Tompkinsville, Ky., she was the daughter of Albert and Lily Bowman. Graduating from high school in Tompkinsville, she went on to attend college at Bowling Green University. On January 31, 1948, she married H. Robert Simpson in Louisville, Ky. Following Robert's job with Reynolds Aluminum, Ruby Susan lived in St. Louis, Mo., Bermuda, and Bon Air, Va. Upon retirement in 1984, she and Bob moved to Charlottesville, returning to Richmond in 2002. Ruby was a devoted mother and grandmother. She was an avid reader and loved playing Bridge. She was a member of PEO, Chapter Y here in Richmond, serving as president from 1966-1968 and as State Representative to the International PEO Convention in Seattle, Wash. Ruby Susan is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Robert; her two daughters she cherished, Janet Simpson of Manakin-Sabot and Pamela Liipfert (Christian) of Houston, Texas; her two treasured grandchildren, Jocelyn Liipfert (working in Hong Kong) and Todd Liipfert (student at Georgetown University); two sisters-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews who were all very dear to her. She leaves behind many friends and PEO sisters for whom she cared deeply. A funeral service will be conducted at the West Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 West Broad Street, Glen Allen, Va., at 1 p.m. Thursday, November 19, 2009, with visitation one hour prior to service. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the PEO Program for Continuing Education Fund, by checks made out to PEO Chapter Y, sent to Susan Ford, Treasurer, 1521 Hilltop Circle, Maidens, Va. 23102.
