HATCHER, Mrs. Sallie Virginia, age 79, of Cumberland, departed this life on Saturday, September 25, 2010, in Richmond, Va. Mrs. Hatcher was employed with Cumberland County School System for 36 years. She is survived by a son, Charles Archer Hatcher (Velma); two daughters, Elsie Marie Hatcher and Barbara Annette Hatcher; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Her remains rest at Marian Gray Thomas Funeral Home of Cumberland, where viewing will be held Friday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday, 1 p.m., at Powhatan County High School auditorium, where remains will lie in state two hours prior to service. Dr. Gregory L. Beechaum Sr., pastor, officiating; Rev. Stevie Trent, eulogist. Interment in Mt. Olive Baptist Church Cemetery in Cumberland. mariangraythomasfuneralhome.com

My thoughts of Mrs. Hatcher go back to my school days then come foward in time. She was always looking out for "her kids" and always had an encouraging word and smile. She never saw me without having a big hug for me. I will always treasure her.
