Stuart SCHMIDT Obituary

SCHMIDT, Stuart Gray, of Richmond, Va., died peacefully on Friday, October 23, 2009. He was preceded in death by his father, Edward F. Schmidt; his mother, Martha Lee Stevenson Schmidt; and his brother, Edward F. Schmidt Jr. He is survived by his wife, Susan Spatig Schmidt; three sons, Stuart Gray Schmidt Jr., Howard S. Schmidt and James D. Schmidt; six grandchildren, Emma Tyler, Hannah Elizabeth, Alexandra Elizabeth, Jack Robert James, Christian Alexis and Bailey Christian Schmidt. Before serving in the military during WWII Mr. Schmidt attended Hampden-Sydney College, where he was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity. After his military service he joined his father's real estate firm Schmidt & Wilson, where he was instrumental in developing the Stratford Hills properties. He later formed his own real estate company and was a member of the Richmond Board of Realtors, the Virginia Association of Realtors and the National Association of Realtors. He was a current member of the Country Club of Virginia, Willow Oaks Country Club and St. Stephen's Episcopal Church. Mr. Schmidt was an animal lover, who contributed generously to various animal and environmental organizations. He was a founding member of Save Our Shelter (S.O.S.). A service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 28, at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 6000 Grove Ave. His family is forever grateful for the loving care given by Anita Miller, Charlotte White and Patsy Hembrick.
