THELMA STRINGFIELD Obituary

Published by Richmond Times-Dispatch on Dec. 24, 2011.
STRINGFIELD, Thelma Anne, 86, widow of Rufus L. Stringfield, died peacefully on December 21, 2011. Anne was born March 12, 1925 to Alsuma and Irving Welchons. One of seven children, she was a devoted daughter and sister. A long career with the Virginia State Police provided challenges for a woman of curiosity and intelligence. Retirement was given purpose by her membership in The Chester Presbyterian Church and the Women's Club of Chester. Her knowledge of nature and her intuitive connection with animals blessed her with empathy, understanding, and joy. The loss of her sense of humor and gentle direction leaves an empty space in our lives. Survivors include her treasured sister, Vera Mangum of Maryland; daughters, Pat Blankenship, Lee Ann Carson, and Vickie Scherer; son, William Stringfield; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a host of nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, December 26, 2011 at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss and Son Funeral Home and Cremation Service. Join our family in celebration of Anne's special life at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, December 27, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial contribution to your local Food Bank, or Rescue Squad. Condolences may be registered at www.jtmorriss.com.
