VIRGINIA SMITH

SMITH, Virginia Busk "Jenny", age 84, of Manassas, Virginia died Saturday, November 21, 2009 at Prince William Hospital, Manassas. In a lifelong list of accomplishments, she pursued many civic and educational passions. A graduate of George Mason University, with a subsequent Masters degree from the same university, she completed these studies after her own children had completed their college education. During her life, she served as President of the Junior Woman's Club of Manassas, a Director of the UDC, an original supporter and contributor to the Manassas Museum, a member of the Manassas Little Theater Group, the Prince William Hospital Auxiliary, and a devoted member of her church of nearly sixty years, the Grace United Methodist Church of Manassas. Jenny was a world traveler who never feared the unknown and had an insatiable desire to personally see the "8 wonders of the world" A goal she accomplished. She will be remembered and loved by so many lifelong friends and family. Her children and grandchildren who will forever remember her love, compassion, spirit, and her ability to focus her attention on each of them one at time! Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her parents, Walter Christian Busk and Lillie Belle Methvin; and one brother, Fred Alley. Survivors include her loving husband of 64 years, Judge H. Selwyn Smith; four children, Victor Alan Smith and his wife, Robin, Alison Smith Dixon and her husband, Michael, Steven Selwyn Smith and his wife, Jane, Carolyn Smith Jacobs and her husband, Bradley; one brother, Walter Christian Busk; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at Grace United Methodist Church, 9750 Wellington Rd., Manassas, Va. 20110. A service to remember Jenny's life will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at the church, with Pastor Rudolph E. Tucker Jr. and Pastor Meredith L. McNabb officiating. Interment will follow at Stonewall Memory Gardens, Manassas. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Grace United Methodist Church, 9750 Wellington Rd., Manassas, Va. 20110 or to the Center for the Arts, George Mason University, 4400 University Dr., Fairfax, Va. 22030 in memory of Virginia Busk Smith.
