Wilfred Foster

FOSTER, Wilfred John Daniel, our beloved father and husband, quietly surrendered his earthly life in the early morning hours of Monday, June 21, 2010. He was born in King William County, Virginia, to the late Cammie G. Foster and Ella Braxton Foster. John D. was one of four children, three of whom preceded him in death. John D. received his primary and secondary education in King William. He received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry from Virginia State University, a Master's of Philosophy Degree in Physical Chemistry and a Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Analytical Chemistry from The George Washington University. He served for 33 years on the faculty at Virginia State University, teaching in the Department of Chemistry. Upon his retirement from Virginia State, he was honored with the Professor Emeritus status, a distinction given for exemplary and dedicated service to the University. In addition to a career in higher education, John D. served 30 years with the Army and Army Reserve. During his tenure with the Army, he completed the Army War College, the Command General Staff College and earned the rank of Colonel. John D. also was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha. On August 23, 1969, he was united in marriage to Patricia Delores Board. From this union, John D. and Patricia had one son, John Dwayne. John D. and Patricia lived in the Richmond area for 36 years. He leaves to cherish his memory wife, Patricia; son, John Dwayne (Judith) and granddaughter of Mountain View, California; and one brother, Wilbert Foster (Chandra) of Williamsburg, Virginia. Also sharing in the memory and celebration of John D.'s life is a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and friends. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, June 25, 2010 at Lovely Valley Baptist Church, 836 Lovely Valley Road, Wirtz, Va. Interment will be in Lovely Valley Baptist Church Cemetery.
