John Brdaric Obituary

John Brdaric Jr., 60, of Bunker Hill, passed away at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township, after a tremendous accident while doing what he loved to do - tear things apart.

Born Aug. 4, 1953, in Kingston, he was a son of Helene Lazar Brdaric and the late John "Butch" Sr. He was the owner/operator of Brdaric Excavating Co., and the owner of Buck Mountain Quarry. He was president of the Bunker Hill Outlaws. His passion was driving snowmobiles, Harleys and RZRs.

He was preceded in death, in addition to his father, by his companion of 10 years, Lou Anne Evans.

Surviving are his children, Jamie and her husband, Bryan Fedor, and John and his wife, Carrie, both of Kingston Township; grandchildren, Colbie and Brooklyn Brdaric, and Ashlyn Wilson; his former wife, Nancy Brdaric; extended grand-family, Maddi Evans, Plains Township, and Brynlee O'Boyle, Luzerne; and his dog, Tyler.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in Holy Family Parish, Luzerne, with the Rev. Michael Zipay officiating. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Kingston Township. Family and friends are to meet with the family 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Holy Family Parish. John's family requests that friends go directly to the church Friday morning.

I didn't know Big John all that well but I knew who he was & I knew a few of his employees. He was always kind to me, even if he didn't exactly remember me. But I'll never forget one night that he took time to talk to me for while- I was out alone & he was just so nice and we had a great conversation. I'll never forget that. That he took time for me- someone he didn't know but it meant the world to me.

More than a week ago my son and I were driving down River Street. As we neared the site where the Sterling was I noticed how immaculate the empty lot was. In bringing that to my sons attention, I told him that that's the kind of company I would want to work for me if I needed work done. I also added that only excellent people do that level of excellent work. Now that I realize it was Mr. Brdaric Jr. and his crew, the family can be proud in knowing that people noticed his work and he must have been an excellent human being. Our deepest condolences to his entire family and may he rest in eternal peace.

September 11, 2013

In the wind there's an eagle soaring high through the air.
He looks down at his loved ones and sees grief and despair.
They may not be bleeding but the wound, it is deep.
They sit and they cry and they mourn and they weep.

He is watching you now, He is feeling and seeing.
His love did not leave, just his body, his being.
The miles, they seperate; The words can't be spoken.
But From Heaven to Earth the bond is unbroken.

The seasons will change and the sun will shine upon
A moment in time when you look ahead to the dawn.
And on a rainbow he sits, majestic and regal.
Watching over you now...your angel, your eagle.

Had the opportunity to work with John on many municipal demolition projects over the last 20 years during my time with Kingston, Edwardsville and Pittston City governments. His work was excellent, well-priced, and you could count on him as both a contractor and a friend. He was always ready to help. Was very sad to see what happened, but he died doing work he loved.

John tore a house down on our property when I was 16 and all I was worried about was the house he was tearing down was going to fall into our house and ruin my room, instead of pushing me aside and telling me to leave him alone, he listened to me and continued to reassure me and promise me that he would let nothing happen, despite my nagging. No one else would have done that and I will always remember his kindness. He was one of the nicest men I have ever met. I will miss our conversations we used to have while I worked at price chopper. Rest in peace, Mr. Brdaric. You and your family will be in my prayers.
