Joseph Renfer

Joseph Renfer, 86, of the Suscon section of Pittston Township, passed away on Friday at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township.
Born March 13, 1922, in Suscon, he was a son of the late Ernest and Mary Burke Renfer. He was educated in St. John’s School. Mr. Renfer was the owner and operator of Renfer’s Farm Dairy. He was later self-employed as a building contractor and retired from the Petro Chemicals Dept., Explosives Division, of the E I Dupont DeNemours Corp. based in Wilmington, Del.
John was a lifelong member of St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, Pittston, and a member of its Holy Name Society. He was also a charter member of the Lone Cabin Sportsmen’s Club and a member of the National Rifle Association.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by brothers Clarence, Walter, Earl, Arnold and Ernest; and sisters Marie and Irene.
Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Harriet; daughters Nadine and husband Matthew Giampietro, Heidi Renfer and husband Bill Duffy; granddaughters Alicia Adams and husband Jeff, Tara McCann and husband Robert, a great-grandson, Jeffrey Adams; great-granddaughter Falin McCann; brother Ralph and his wife, Faye; sister-in-law Erna Renfer, and several generations of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. from Kiesinger Funeral Services, 255 McAlpine St., Duryea., with Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church, Pittston, officiated by Msgr. John Bendik. Friends may call Monday evening, from 5 to 8 p.m. Interment will be held at St. Mary’s of the Maternity Cemetery, West Wyoming.
