Kelly, David O. WEST SAND LAKE David Owen Kelly, 66, died suddenly on Friday, February 24, 2012 at Albany Memorial Hospital. He was born to the late Loretta Szancila and Owen Martin Kelly Jan. 9, 1946 in Boonville, N.Y. David attended Boonville Central High School and from there he enlisted with the U.S. Navy severing two tours during Vietnam ('63-'67), partially spent on the USS Frank Knox. He married Sharon L. Smith in 1968, and they lived together on Taylor Court in Troy for 28 years. He was a liver transplant survivor since 2004. David was the Deputy County Engineer Chief Building Official for the Rensselaer County Dept. of Engineering & Highways for the last 14 yrs. Prior to that he was a partner at Clough Harbour & Associates in Albany for 30 years. David was an active member of the Independent Party serving on the Executive Committee of New York State. He was a member of the Emerald Athletic Club in Troy, the Veteran's Club of Watervliet, the Brunswick Elks Club # 2556, North Troy Stag Rod & Gun Club, the Out of Control Ski Club of Albany and a former member of the Country Club of Troy. He had a passion for food and was a stellar gourmet cook and famous for Dave's Pasta. He was a true outdoors-man finding solace in fishing and gardening and enjoyed golfing, hunting and a life long love for skiing having received numerous medals for his downhill skiing efforts in high school. David loved to travel and in his early years spent time in Ireland and had ski adventures with his wife and friends in Europe. He loved his family and friends and was known by many for his quick wit. He is survived by four children, Erin Swift (Arron) of Hood River, Ore., Tara Kelly of Venice, Calif., Kathleen Leis (John) of Dallas, Texas, Michael Kelly of Troy, and one grandchild Wynter Temple Swift. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at the McLoughlin & Mason Funeral Home, corner of 109th Street and Third Avenue, Lansingburgh with Linda Faduski officiating. Burial will follow at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga national Cemetery, Schuylerville. Calling hours will be Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made out to, the West Sand Lake Vol. Fire Co 3697 NY Highway 43, West Sand Lake, NY 12196. Even though David received his transplant in Indiana donations can be made to Albany Medical Center Transplant Services.
