Russell Matthews Obituary

Matthews, Russell S. ALBANY Russell S. Matthews, 45, of Madison Ave. passed suddenly April 24, 2012 into the arms of his creator God and his mother. He was always a thoughtful, God loving son, brother, uncle and friend. His faith in God was, had and always will be in the word of God. Russell, a devoted Catholic, always attended Catholic Churches. Russell had such a unique sense of humor he could make the crying laugh. Russell always had encouraging words to say to all of us to bringing us closer to our own destiny with God and each other in our lives. He always said "Don't cry for me cry for yourself." He is survived by his father, Br. Robert-Francis Matthews, FSD, of Coxsackie; his father's wife, Carol Matthews and Carol's family. He is the brother of Noelle M. Matthews of Troy, Colleen M. Svingala of Watervliet, Cheryl Ryan of Troy, Mary Beth Matthews of Cohoes, the late David "Bird" Matthews and Robert Shawn Matthews. He is also predeceased by his mother, Joanne Whalen Matthews. Several nieces and nephews, brothers and sister in laws also survive. Funeral services will be Friday morning at 11 a.m. from the Philip J. Brendese Funeral Home, 133 Broad St. (Rte. 32), Waterford and at 11:30 a.m. at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, Waterford. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Thursday 4-7 p.m. Those who wish may make contributions to the American Cancer Society or The Franciscans of San Damiano in care of the funeral home office.
