Dear Alice and family,
May God Bless You at this sad time.
I saw Don about two years ago at a Republican meeting in St. Augustine, and thought how he still had that great, warm friendliness about him.

He was so proud to tell me that he had grandchildren, and bragged about his sons. I had last seen him at Darragh Steel's funeral.

He hired me at The Deerwood Club back in 1979, and he was the "best boss" to work for. He truly cared about people...all people, and treated everyone with enormous kindness and generosity.

Alice & Sons,

The comments reflect the loss of a great statesman and a wonderful father and husband....we will all miss his smile. A long, long, long time friend of the family and an incredible powerhouse of human dignity and charisma. I know that one person in particular will be thrilled to see him 'up there'...and that's Darragh; his cocktail hour sidekick and biggest fan. You know they are laughing and hugging and recanting tall tales of the good ole' days. Liverwurst and beer on the front porch, summer tent dances at Deerwood, golf and tennis parties and the perils of raising tenacious kids in an ever changing world.

He will be so very missed. Know he is in our hearts forever, and that he is most certainly in very good company now...Mom for sure, was at the very front of the line to greet him.

Our love and prayers are with you all,

Barb, Ken and Bob Steel

I met Don in 2007 in Deerwood on my garbage route while I was there in the heat he always had cold drinks and fresh fruit for me and my helper; and often tipped us whenever he had extra yard waste. When he found out he had cancer and sounded a bit sad, I stopped and prayed with him with my helper and he cheered right up. He even stopped past this year on my new route in Palatka to say thanks and goodbye. God needed him to come home now. People like Don make you know there is a God. Thank you Don.
